Mutant Ecologies: The Wave

The nonprofit, Art Works for Change presents ‘The Wave,’ a collaborative installation born out of crisis. The installation began from a series of questions, including, “how can we transform what’s considered waste into art itself or make it a gift to society?” Located within the historic Rhinebeck United Methodist Church, ‘The Wave’ challenges conventional views of nature within the larger context of MUTANT ECOLOGIES. Comprised of discarded clothing, textiles, and bulk building materials collected by the Rhinebeck community, the installation prompts contemplation of our evolving relationship with ecology, fashion, commodity, globalization, and exploitation. This amalgamation of natural and artificial elements encourages reflection on our collective impact on the environment. As we navigate the complexities of the post-nature era, ‘The Wave’ underscores the importance of sustainable stewardship and interconnectedness. A large-scale multi-media installation, THE WAVE, will include photography, assemblage, sculpture, video and painting.
