Article 29 – Goals of Education – Developing Physical and Mental Ability
Children’s education should be holistic and should develop each child’s talents and abilities to the fullest. Children should be encouraged to express themselves and give a voice to their aspirations and career goals. A holistic education should help children to develop into productive individuals which the knowledge and skills to contribute positively to their communities.
Khadidiatou and Ramata are both 13 years old. They chose to focus their artwork on the right of to education and the importance of expressing their goals and aspirations for the future. ‘Participating in the AWARE/OWARE activities helped me to understand that as a girl, I have the right to a quality education in order to have a brighter future.’ (Khadidiatou). ‘The workshops and the AWARE/OWARE art activities enabled me to learn about human rights and to know that girls have equal rights to boys in terms of getting an education. Education will enable me to develop knowledge and skills in order to get a good job.’(Ramata)
