Article 27 – Adequate School and Living Environment
The poor physical environment can adversely affect the quality of education for the students at a secondary school in Dabo, resulting in high drop-out rates. Many schools in the Kolda region lack basic necessities that can compromise a quality education. Children face many challenges due to overcrowding in the schools, with up to 70 students in some classes. This is often the result of the lack of infrastructure such as school buildings, resources such as textbooks, a lack of electricity and running water, separate toilets for male and female students, a lack of shelter from the intense heat, and a lack of desks and tables.
