A PREVIEW OF 2017

First, a little background.

What We Do. Our content-driven, cross-disciplinary, interactive exhibitions and projects — such as the six-year touring Off the Beaten Path: Violence, Women and Art; Nature’s Toolbox: Biodiversity, Art and Invention recognizing the importance of nature as a great teacher in problem-solving; and Survival Architecture and the Art of Resilience, exploring shelter in a time of climate challenges — have reached beyond the traditional museum-going public, providing access to a much broader community.

For example, the Cricket Shelter and Farm, commissioned by Art Works for Change and created by Terreform ONE offers "a new hybrid approach to architecture that's designed to both protect and feed humans in a catastrophic situation," as CNN recently put it.

Why We Are Effective. We use inspiring, powerful art that is engaging on many levels, including emotionally and intellectually, to inspire viewers to be agents of change. Our diverse group of artists and cultural activists are driven by the power of narrative and community voice. Art activates the pubic as collaborators in seeking social good and positive change.

What's Coming Up. We have three great projects coming in 2017, including:

  • The Great Cape Project addressing basic human rights and the elimination of exploitation and empowerment of boys and girls.
  • The Resilience Biennial, a citywide exhibition exploring urban stresses, both chronic and acute, such as homelessness, poverty, gentrification, climate change, and crime. The exhibition aims to more fully embrace local communities and their stories, including often under-represented populations.
  • Ethics Excess Extinction exhibition to foster compassion and respect for the world around us by understanding how our everyday lives affect the species around us as well as those far, far away.
